If I can give you one bit of advice this Holiday season, reach out to someone. Christmas depression is SO real. Many people, are alone at Christmas. Many of these people are YOUR friends. Friends that you don’t even realize are alone.
Invite Friends To Your Home
It doesn’t take a lot of effort to invite a friend to a Holiday dinner or Christmas party. You could even invite a COUPLE to a Christmas event. Think about it, if you consider them your “friend”, your family will enjoy their company too. You will be very happy that you invited them. You’ll not only bring joy to your friend’s Holiday but your family too.

That person that isn’t talking about their Christmas dinner and the trimmings… They may not have anyone to celebrate with. When someone says “I do much for Christmas”, they may not have someone to celebrate with. They may be alone because of a death in the family. It could be because their family lives in another state. Their family may not be close and a Holiday gathering is out of the idea. Social isolation is very common these days. Families aren’t as close as they were in times gone by.
Text Your Friends
We all have those few people who, for some reason or another, we can’t seem to visit with. My advice is to reach out and let that person know that you care about them and that you’re here for them.
Reaching out can be as simple as a text message: “I hope you’re having a good day and I just wanted to say hello! I’m thinking of you.”
You most likely won’t alleviate their entire Christmas depression with this tiny act of compassion. What you will do, is cheer them up for a while. Get their mind off the situation “at hand”.
I’d also like to encourage you to continue reaching out to your friends. They need you, not only during the Holidays. Christmas depression is real, but living without close family members is a daily struggle.
I’m no stranger to anxiety and depression. I fight it daily.
