I loves me some candy.

But you all know this already. Just like you all know how I love to spend time in my kitchen making sweet treats. So when given the opportunity to devise a recipe around some quality SweetWorks products I couldn’t say yes fast enough! You remember SweetWorks – I introduced you to them back in the Fall when I made some decadent Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Filled Croissants using their Ovations chocolate orange break-a-parts. Mmmmm. They didn’t last long.

This time I wanted to do something a little more celebratory – it is the season to be jolly after all! I have to mention that SweetWorks went all out on what they sent to me – OH.MY.HEAVENS! I had to control myself. I am being very good and putting some of these beautiful candy treats away to send to the kids for Christmas. Did you know that SweetWorks has been making their candies for over 50 years? I’ll bet you know some of their brands and just didn’t know that SweetWorks was the parent: Sixlets, Niagra Chocolate, Oak Leaf and Ovation. I’ve been buying the hubby the Ovation break apart chocolate oranges for years!

I decided to make an ice cream cake using Sixlets in the center. SweetWorks is also a cake decorator’s dream come true with their candy pearls and different sweet shapes. They had sent me Sixlets in two different sizes and two different color combinations. I decided to go with traditional red, green and white.

My Ice Cream Cake Recipe is easy to make, if a little time consuming as two batches of ice cream are needed and each one has to freeze solidly. It’s a two day project but well worth it if you ask me. (The link will take you to printable instructions.) For this variation instead of using the cookie crumbs in between the chocolate and vanilla layers I just covered the bottom layer (after it was quite frozen) with Sixlets. Then I topped them with the vanilla ice cream. It went back in the freezer to harden overnight.

I made Italian Meringue (the recipe is included within the ice cream cake recipe) to frost the cake. You can see the Sixlets add a colorful touch to the center of the cake.  From this point I added a generous amount of frosting to the cake.

It seems someone ran off with the beater. It apparently passed the taste test. *sigh* The recipe makes more than enough to frost the ice cream cake – especially since you are not putting any in the center.

I then pulled out a large star tip and piped a ring of stars around the cake. I carefully placed a large, red Sixlet atop each star. I put white ones around the bottom. I would say this is a cake ready for a celebration, wouldn’t you?

Erm. Someone is ready for a party. He does like vanilla ice cream. And marshmallow. I’d better keep that cake hidden.

I did let the hubby have a taste of the cake. I would say he liked it. He said the addition of the Sixlets made the cake special.

I loved all of the treats I’ve tasted from SweetWorks – I refuse to share how many gumballs I’ve gone through – I do love bubble gum! I also ate the chocolate rocking horse. I was going to send it as a gift but…..well, it was really good. Be sure to check out all of the goodies there are at SweetWorks.
