Banana Bread with Nutella Recipe

Every night the husband and I have fruit of some kind as dessert. When I can get nice, slightly green bananas they are my choice. I love a banana just on the edge of ripe. Once it gets too far they are too sweet for me. If they pass the point of no return I pop them in the freezer to use for baking. I love having the option of always having bananas in the freezer when I am in the mood to bake. This banana bread with Nutella recipe came about on a day when I was playing in the kitchen.

Banana Bread with Nutella

Makes one standard loaf

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 – 4 very ripe bananas (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 6 TBS unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Preheat oven to 350 and set rack to lower middle position
  • Grease and flour a 9 x 5 loaf pan
  • Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  • In a medium bowl stir together the mashed bananas, sour cream, eggs, butter and vanilla.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and gently fold together until combined. Do not overmix.
  • Remove a cup and a half of the batter to a separate bowl and stir in the Nutella. Set aside.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Drop the Nutella batter in dollops and run a knife through to swirl.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick comes out clean, about 55 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack in the pan for about 5 minutes, then remove to cool completely.

How Was the Banana Bread with Nutella?

Very tasty. It’s a bit sweet so you can’t eat too much of it at once but in my opinion it’s worth the splurge. I couldn’t eat a big piece but I did enjoy the treat. Both flavors came through quite well and the bread is quite moist.

It’s holding very well and we are still enjoying it several days later.
