I started out the week showing you my recipe for homemade gnocchi. Today I share a second way to cook them – a truly simple preparation, Gnocchi Parmesan. I used my homemade tomato sauce and lots of good, mozzarella. Nothing complicated but very delicious.

My desire to make these little potato pastas was due to a) loving them and b) having the worst ones ever while on a trip to Italy. I never would have thought I would have had bad Italian food in Italy but there are bad restaurants everywhere, right? They are a bit time and labor intensive but they were worth the work in my opinion.

My first attempt, as I mentioned in the recipe post were not as light as I have had but they weren’t inedible globs of mush either. So read on on how to make this easy to prepare and very delicious dinner.

How Was the Gnocchi Parmesan?

This was a delightful way to enjoy gnocchi. Very classic too. What’s not to love about tomato sauce and cheese? There is nothing complicated or difficult about this recipe and yet it makes for a very satisfying meal. Of course at its heart are the delicious homemade gnocchi.

Other Ways to Prepare Gnocchi

If you are looking to branch out and want to look into various ways to make and serve gnocchi there are a lot of variations available. For example, you don’t have to make them with white potatoes. Some people make sweet potato gnocchi – they do have a lovely color. I have never made them so I cannot speak as to how they taste.

Baked chicken and gnocchi seems to be another popular recipe choice. I can understand how this would be a really tasty combination that could be paired with a variety of sauces.

Who doesn’t love the flavor of Buffalo chicken? Well now you can have in this recipe for buffalo chicken gnocchi. It adds everyone’s favorite potato pasta to those famous flavors.

beets

Here’s something I didn’t know – there is beetroot gnocchi! I am amazed at all of the different vegetables that one can use to make gnocchi!

How about a beef and bacon gnocchi skillet? How yummy does that sound? It takes all your favorite burger flavors, mixes them with gnocchi and cooks it all up in one pan. What could be easier?

OK – these are the oddball carrots the husband grew but they are still carrots. And somewhat amusing

Now here is something completely different as they say – how about carrot gnocchi! Yes, you read that correctly. No potatoes, rather carrots. Interesting. I might have to try these for the husband. He loves carrots.

When you have those turkey (or chicken) leftovers think about making a big pot of soup – like Turkey Gnocchi Soup. It would certainly be comforting.

Endless Gnocchi-bilites

As you can read the possibilities for using your homemade gnocchi are only limited by your cook’s imagination. My first dinner with them was gnocchi in sage lemon butter. They were delicious.

Gnocchi are very versatile – you can put them into soups and stews just like you would noodles. Gnocchi can be used with all kinds of sauces because they really are neutrally flavored – unless you are working with the sweet potato variety.

I suspect that they do carry more flavor than those made with white potatoes. I can’t say for sure as I have never had them.

However you decide to serve them, by all means try making some homemade gnocchi. They are worth the effort and your dinner options are not limited once you do make them.
