I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Nutrish for Cats. I received a sample of Nutrish for Cats to facilitate this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

It’s been said that I spoil the Farm cats.
ME?
How is it spoiling the Farm cats to give them the best cat food I can?
And of course I want it to be healthy cat food ’cause I’ve got to counter all of those mousie brains that Harry consumes.
Ah-hem.
(And we will not discuss their addiction to a certain cat treat.)
So I was very excited when I was recently sent a package containing the new Nutrish for Cats from Rachel Ray so the Farm cats could give their opinions on the kibble and wet foods.

This natural cat food has either chicken or fish as it’s first ingredient and no icky fillers like meat by products. There are no artificial flavors or preservatives so I know that when I am feeding it to my little furballs they are getting a high quality meal. I love knowing that they are eating something that they will like and that is good for them. I figured that since this was a special meal and it was a lovely day they should dine al fresco.

Needless to say most of the Farm cats enjoyed this unique experience. They dove into the different wet cat food flavors which included Chicken Purrcata, Ocean Fishalicious and Lip Smackin’ Sardine and Mackerel.
I have to admit that the names cracked me up! As to the “most” statement above – when I tried to take Pumpkin the Farm cat out for his taste test….

….well, let’s just say he was not enthusiastic about dining al fresco and leave it at that. I have since healed. I can tell you that he did love the kibble! He took after it like a ravening beast. Or was that my arm? heh. Pumpkin is the Farm cat that has the most independent streak.

The other three were very happy to participate in the taste test. In fact, it was at times a bit of a Keystone Kops adventure with cats stealing other cat’s food! Poor Stinky! Don’t you worry though – she got a whole cup to herself later. She’s my oldest kitty and I make sure she is babied.

It was a fun al fresco experience for the Farm cats. All four Farm cats love both the wet and dry Nutrish for Cats even though Pumpkin declined to participate in the outside meal. I’ve never seen Harry take to a kibble like this before – he tends to eat more dry than wet food. I suspect it’s the mouse and gopher eating. Ick, I know but he is a hunter! The other three lean more towards wet food and they loved these varieties.

The hubby and I also had a delicious dinner thanks to Rachel Ray! I was asked to make either a chicken or salmon dinner to mirror the cats’ dinners. Me being me I did one of each. I just do not like salmon but it is the hubby’s favorite fish.  He was just so distraught (NOT) when I told him I would have to cook his favorite meal for a post….so I combined two of his favorites into this simple, seasonal dinner:

Salmon with Huckleberry Sauce

PRINT THIS RECIPE

Serves 1 but can be doubled to serve 2

1 5.5 oz salmon fillet
1 tsp canola oil
1 cup huckleberries or blueberries
1/4 cup sweet onions, roughly diced
1/2 tsp Serrano pepper, chopped finely
1 TBS vodka (optional)
1 TBS balsamic vinegar
1 tsp butter
salt and pepper
1 cup prepared brown rice

side salad

In a small, heavy bottomed pot combine the huckleberries, onions and Serrano pepper. Add the vodka and balsamic vinegar and cook until the sauce just comes to a boil. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.

Heat a saute pan over medium high heat. Add the canola oil. Season the salmon fillet with salt and pepper. Add it to the pan and cook on one side for three minutes, turn it over and cook on the other side for three minutes. The length of cooking time will vary with the thickness of your fillet. Mine was 3/4″ thick. Remove the fillet from the heat and let rest.

Return the sauce to the heat and bring just to a boil. Remove from the heat and add the butter stirring until it melts. The butter adds a touch of richness and gives the sauce a lovely gloss. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

To serve, place a cup of the brown rice on the plate, top with the salmon and cover with the sauce. I served this with a fresh garden salad with a simple lemon honey vinaigrette.

The chicken meal took advantage of our garden which is finally starting to produce more than just lettuce. It also falls in at 350 calories.

It’s a delicious Chicken Garden Salad and to see how it was made you can can go HERE.
I don’t want this post to get too long. I must admit I had fun in the kitchen. Almost as much fun as the cats had with their new Nutrish for Cats.
