The ingredients you need to make roasted garlic hummus are pretty simple. We usually have most of these ingredients on hand.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Olive oil
- Chickpeas – canned or dried
- Tahini paste
- Lemon juice
- Ice cubes
These ingredients are optional, but recommended for topping the hummus:
- Red pepper flakes
- Fresh chopped parsley
How to Make Garlic Hummus
This garlic hummus recipe is very simple to make. First you roast the garlic in olive oil. Once the garlic is roasted and tender, you add it to a blender with the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
I like to top the hummus with more olive oil, roasted garlic cloves, red pepper flakes, and fresh parsley before serving.
How to Store Homemade Hummus
Leftover hummus can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
You can also freeze hummus in an airtight freezer container for up to three months. You may need to blend the hummus again after thawing to help the texture after it has been frozen.
What to Serve with Hummus
There are so many ways to enjoy this hummus! People most often serve it as a dip, but you can add it to sandwiches or use it as a sauce on salads or pastas.
The possibilities are really pretty numerous when it comes to enjoying hummus. Here are some ideas for what you can eat with roasted garlic hummus:

Roasted Garlic Hummus
- 1 blender
- 1 Oven
- 1 Pan
- 3 heads garlic
- 3 tablespoons olive oil divided
- 2 15 ounce cans chickpeas drained and rinsed
- ½ cup tahini paste
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice juice of one lemon
- 3 ice cubes
- Optional: Olive oil, parsley, chopped roasted garlic and red pepper flakes for garnish
- Preheat the oven to 400?. Place three pieces of aluminum foil (large enough to cover a head of garlic) on a baking pan.
- Cut the tops off (about ¼”) of each garlic head and remove any loose skin. Place each head of garlic on a piece of aluminum foil and drizzle generously with olive oil (about two tablespoons total).
- Wrap the garlic heads tightly in the aluminum foil and place the pan in the oven. Roast the garlic for approximately 45 minutes or until the garlic cloves are soft. Remove the garlic heads from the oven and unwrap them to cool once they’re done.
- Add the roasted garlic, chickpeas, tahini paste, lemon juice, and ice cubes to a blender. Blend the ingredients together until smooth and creamy.Tip: If your ingredients aren’t coming together smoothly, add a small amount of ice-cold water.
- Serve the hummus in a bowl or container. Top with olive oil and any additional desired garnishes.
