Gift Cards for Mom
Gift cards are one of our favorite things to gift. I know they aren’t for everyone, but I like that the person gets to pick out something they really want or need.
Many moms have turned to minimalism because they have way too much stuff in their homes. I hate to add to someone’s clutter with stuff they really don’t love but feel like they need to keep.

How to Pick Out a Gift Card for Your Mom
Giving a gift card or certificate can still be just as thoughtful as giving a material gift. You still need to think about where Mom would like to shop based on her hobbies and likes.
There are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a gift card:
- Does mom have access to this store, or can she shop there online?
- How expensive are the things she’d like to buy from this store?
- Does the store offer electronic gift cards, or do you need to purchase a physical card?
Here’s a few tips for picking out where to buy a certificate from:
- Pick a store your mom likes to shop at or somewhere that offers things you know she likes and will use.
- Stores that offer electronic gift cards are great for last-minute gifts.
- Only buy gift cards to the same place if you know your mom has used the previous ones you gave her (unless she is saving for something big).
The following lists are broken down into a few categories so you can get some ideas for your mom. There are ideas for crafty, DIY, gardening, home decor, fitness, bookworm, outdoors, and cooking.
E Gift Cards vs. Physical Cards
Electronic gift cards are now available pretty much anywhere you want to shop. They are a great option if you are a low on time and need a last-minute gift. The chart below shows our top gift card option ideas and whether or not electronic versions are available.
Electronic gift cards are pretty simple to use. On most sites, you enter your name, the recipient’s name, and their email. Then the card is sent straight to their email.
I like to use electronic versions if we can’t see mom on the day of her birthday or Mother’s Day. However, I still prefer to gift a physical card when possible. It’s less convenient, but I like to be able to actually hand something over when giving a gift.
A lot of the websites will allow you to print off your electronic card that you can put in an envelope as an alternative.
